“GTA 6” was exposed to be postponed, leading to a sharp drop in Take-Two’s stock price.

March 30, it was reported that Jason Schreier, a well-known game reporter for Bloomberg, recently released the latest issue of “Game On” newsletter, discussing his views on the recent revelation of the postponement of “GTA 6”, believing that this rumor has caused “excessive concern” (Overblown concern).

Jason pointed out that earlier this week, the stock price of publisher Take-Two plunged by 5.2% due to the above rumors. In fact, video games always come later than planned, especially games like the “GTA” series that are ambitious and bring great pressure to developers. “There is still a long time from now to the end of 2025, and even if the progress goes smoothly, no one can be sure that the game will be completed within 21 months.”

Last year, the release of the first trailer for “GTA 6” and the initial commitment to release in 2025 led to a significant increase in Take-Two’s stock price. However, after that, a new policy of “GTA” developer Rockstar – requiring employees to return to the office for five days a week starting from April 15 – has demoralized R star.

As of noon local time on Thursday, Take-Two’s stock price has not fully rebounded. Jason said that this may reflect investors’ remaining doubts that the game may take longer to appear. “Or, have investors overreacted and made no sense?”

Jason stated that game development is a messy and nonlinear process, facing both technical and artistic challenges, and the new remote work policy may slow down the progress. Last summer, when he asked R-star employees about the progress of the game, the only reply he received was the word “chaos”. In the end, Jason concluded: the development of the next “GTA” will definitely fall behind, “as always”.

The game media Kotaku earlier this month claimed that the progress of the production of “Grand Theft Auto 6” (GTA 6) is behind schedule, and the possibility of postponement to 2026 cannot be ruled out.

Rockstar Games studio has issued a notice requiring employees who are currently working remotely to return to the office as soon as possible in order to faster promote the “GTA 6” game project.

Kotaku learned from insiders who are familiar with the game development process that “GTA 6” may miss the 2025 release window and be postponed to 2026.

But then Kotaku corrected its previous statement: Although it was “once possible” to be released in early 2025, it is no longer the target for the launch of “GTA 6”. The game’s actual target is to be launched in the fall of 2025, and it may still be postponed.
