On August 26, Apple pushed out the iOS / iPadOS 26 Developer Preview Beta 8 update (internal build number: 23A5330a) to iPhone and iPad users. This update comes seven days after the previous Beta / RC release.
According to reports from 9to5Mac and other sources, the development of iOS 26 is nearing completion. The seventh and eighth beta versions show almost no changes, indicating that Apple has finished most of the feature development and optimization.
As usual, Apple is unlikely to release a ninth developer beta. Since iOS 13 to iOS 18, Apple has released 8 developer betas before the official version. Unless a major issue arises before the candidate version, iOS 26 will likely follow this pattern, meaning that the features and interface are mostly finalized.
Apple typically releases the release candidate (RC) of iOS to testers after the new iPhone launch event. Previous reports have stated that this year’s iPhone launch event is set for September 9, and if the timeline remains unchanged, the official iOS 26 version will be rolled out to all users on September 16, one week after the event.
Looking at the past, iOS 12 set a record with 12 developer betas due to frequent pop-up issues, while iOS 6 only had 4 betas. In recent years, 8 developer betas have become Apple’s stable rhythm, and the testing process and release schedule have become more predictable.
